[Well, and there's the answer to that and why she needed to see him.] Not personally until now. [He has heard of them and he's always been mindful of residents who need to prey on others to survive like Drusilla once upon a time. It's one of the reasons their cats aren't let outdoors without supervision. (The other, greater one, is that House 22 borders the woods, and as tough as they are, there are plenty of creatures willing to make their girls a meal.)]

... he made himself a threat to you. It's understandable. [The low tone of concern.] ... are they still alive?

[It's probably the most important question and it's asked quietly without accusation. Many offered more leeway to the experimented and if Perona wasn't in her right mind, there's a chance she could get through this with minimal consequences. Especially if she had tried to fight it in front of them.

Killing put things on a different level. Law's influence in Luceti, though still strong, isn't what it was once. It might not be enough to protect her. (And it could - would cost him).

... that said, the urge to do some mauling of his own shoots through him as soon as she lifts her dress to show him the bandaged bullet wound. Sloppy of him to think her uninjured - he should have noticed faster. Not that he will actually lift a hand against the shooter - justified wound that - but he likes her, always has, and the instinct is there.]
